The Accordion Revolution Club is a unique instrument/music appreciation club, comprised of accordion patriots, aged 10 to 75, their families and enthusiasts who meet monthly during the fall, winter and spring in beautiful Williamsburg, Virginia, America’s revolution capital. We believe and practice free speech, free reed musical speech that is, exploring various genre of music, learning new and varied techniques of instrument expression.
There are no dues or competitions. Rather we complete each other through our open bellow (open microphone) meeting forum coupled with a genre theme of study. Guest musicians and speakers add color and timbre to our palate. Refreshments, fellowship and fun are always on the agenda.
Refer to my calendar for meeting dates! We hope you can “squeeze” us into your busy schedule.
Accordion Revolution Club squeezed off their first 2012-2013 meeting with an authentic Ocktoberfest at the Williamsburg Library on Sunday 23 September joined by Accordion Lovers of Virginia – Virginia Beach and supported by The Happy Dutchmen German Band. Highlights included a recap of the Accordion Heroes Workshop @ Burr Hill, Va. 20-23 June narrated by Joel Stokes which included a video of Liuba Pak and a cameo tune by Joel, a recap of the West Virginia Accordion Concert 15 June narrated by Jim Rice which included a video of Mike Bridge, and a stellar jazz rendition Ach de lieber Augustine performed by Tip and Carol Ciotti, and of course the Happy Dutchmen’s selections lead by Sir Sid Sward.
This was the first time that many of our accordionists played as an ensemble or played with a band. The band members gave the club members valuable tips on how to play in completing not competing with a band, what to do when you become lost (find the bass line) and how to follow the melody by playing harmony. Donna Rice provided the bratwurst, sauerkraut and beer – root and birtch – with several members providing sides and desserts. Safe to say it was a great Squeeze Fest. Stay tuned for specific announcements regarding their next meeting 3 November when they will host and feature Joan Graumann!
